If the first two lines of this poem sound familiar to you, they probably are; these are two of the most famous lines of poetry.
This is a simple poem. The poet sees a "host of golden daffodils" and is enraptured:
"A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company!"
However, he doesn't fully appreciate the scene, for after the incident, whenever he feels unhappy or disconsolate, he thinks about the brilliant field of swaying daffodils and is filled with bliss.
One of the things that makes this poem great is its imagery; many of us have often wandered like a cloud without apparent direction. This poem is in a way about serendipity; the poet stumbles upon a view of remarkable beauty without seeking it, and the image remains with him, brightening up his days long after. But, returning to the imagery, Wordsworth conjures up the image of thousands of bobbing flower heads,
"Ten thousand saw I at a glance
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance."
His description of the event created it in our own minds, and perhaps leaves a bit of beauty to brighten our own days.
