i can't give any info on thomas grey, but i can offer you a bit of info on "elegy written in a country churchyard.
lines 1-16:the setting(twilight)
11-32: the lives of simple people
45-60: unfulfilled potential of people
61-76: how the people were good/bad
77-92: shift, hard to be remembered
93-116: poet anticipates own death
then the author's epitaph.
more info:
the poet did not kill himself, as alluded to lines 93-116.
in grey's epitaph, it claims he died before his time, he didn't accomplish fame nor fortune, and to remember his good and bad aspects, because he was with God. my cl also discussed the fact that the epitaph somehow states that God was his only real companion, for what it's worth.
and an epitaph is the engraving on a tombstone
another thing i can remember is that somewhere it states that the moon and owl are mad at eahc other. the reason for this is: the owl is mad at the moon because the moom emits such a bright light, it is hard for the owl to catch prey. on th other hand, the moon is mad at the owl because its hooting is disturbing the romanticism of the night.
also, grey compares the dead to a gem under the ocean in a cave and a flower in a desert. the reason for this is that none of those things were seen to their full potential. the dead were not rich, nor were they accomplished and well known, but they lived thier lives as well as they could. if you need any more info, feel free to email me.
