: The nymphs reply is a poem following "the p'ssionate shepherd to his love" by christopher marlowe. They are both pastoral works, poems idealizing the life and p'ssion of life in the country of shepherds and milkmaids. They are written by people who live in cities and had probably never been to the country at all. Marlowe's poem is a shepherd inviting a nymph to love him and share the joys of nature, and the nymph replies in Ralegh's poem. It is ironic that the shepherd should speak of a fantasy life and the nymph, a mythological creature, should reply with reality.
