I have solved my own problem with the help of the South Carolina State Library and their poem finder.
The poet, for those who wish to know, is William Cullen Bryant. The titles of the poems are "Green River," as I had guessed, and "Song." However, the ending line of "Song" is "But when he marks the reddening sky, He bounds away to hunt the deer."
I would recommend these and another of his poems, "To A Waterfowl," to anyone for your enjoyment.
Thank you,
Tim
