His son died of the plague at 7...he loved him too much, too much because now he's hurting so much...he avows he will never "like" anything so much again..."child of my right hand" is the hebrew translation for the name Benjamin, which coincidentally is his son's name. He wonders why he feels so terrible even though his son has moved on to a place free from unhappiness
